To Welcome a Toadfish is a short film directed by Bryony Dunne developed through extended research in Athens and Southern Crete, situated between documentary inquiry and speculative fiction. Set in a near-future dystopic context, the film brings together field research, scripted material and archival footage to explore ecological displacement, migration and human–non-human entanglement within the Mediterranean.

Paralel Audio led the music and sound work for the film, including original score, sound design, foley, edit, mix and master. The sound approach was conceived as a structural narrative layer, balancing environmental realism with a more interpretive, cinematic language. Particular attention was given to micro-timing, spatial depth and the relationship between underwater sound, voice and image, supporting the film’s movement between research material, fictional elements and symbolic imagery.
